U.S. Senator Dole Meets Secretly with Gates County Commissioners

GATES COUNTY NC NEWS -- While campaigning in northeastern North Carolina this weekend, North Carolina's U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole made two unexpected stops in Gates County. A predominantly rural Democrat county, which is listed as one of two North Carolina counties considered for location of our U.S. Navy's new Outlying Landing Field (OLF).

Although Senator Dole was on the campaign trail, this did not deter her from taking time attended a secret meeting of Gates County Board of Commissioners of Saturday 26, 2008. The meeting held at 2:15 P.M., and was neither advertised nor open to the public. In attendance of the secret meeting held Saturday was Senator Dole and four of the five Gates County Commissioners, and the County's Manager:

J.S. Pierce, Chairman
David R. Brown, Vice Chairman
Kenneth Jernigan, Commissioner
Wade Howell Askew, Commissioner

WCU Voter Registration by Ron Paul Supporters

WCU was invaded by Ron Paul Supporters, and I was there to record the event, in video and photos.

And finally, I made a music video, capturing the essence of the event:

Thank Me!

I Welcome My RINO Overlords

We will fight them on the beaches, We will fight them in the streets, We will fight them house to house, We will fight them in the hills and we will never surrender!

(Apologies to Winston Churchill)

Seriously, we can expect this guy to be a danger to the blogosphere and online activism.

John McCain has won the Florida Primary, and will be coronated King of the GOP by the media, and Democrats will dance with glee at the prospects of a win-win election for them in November. They will get a Democrat no matter who wins, and they will hope that Conservatism has been killed, or relegated to a minor constituency in the GOP.

I think not. We will resist this man every step of the way of the nomination process. We will teach our children quietly, then one day, we will rise up, and topple the evil RINO Coalition.

The entire address will play in the player below:

And here is a link to the transcript, and here is my favorite clip, lifted from Quinn & Rose:

Some Final Polls, State of The Union

Here are a couple of polls for the Florida GOP Primary today:

* John McCain 35% (33%)

* Mitt Romney 31% (30%)

* Rudy Giuliani 13% (14%)

* Mike Huckabee 13% (11%)

* Ron Paul 2% (2%)

* Someone else 2% (3%)

* Not Sure 5% (8%)

Survey of 941 likely Republican voters was conducted January 27-28. The margin of error is +/-3.3 percentage points. Results from the poll conducted January 25-27 are in parentheses.

|ZOGBY| Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby GOP Florida Primary

* Romney 37.8%

* McCain 35.7%

* Huckabee 12.4%

* Giuliani 11.4%

* Paul 2.7%

A Braynard Methodology Survey, conducted January 28 among 500 likely registered Republican voters (MOE 4% /w 95% confidence level).

“While McCain prevails among the over 65 age group who are retirees, Romney gets the win from strong support among those who are still in the workforce. The further the voter is from retirement and the more they depend on a strong economy to provide them with jobs, the more strongly they identify with Romney’s economy-focused message. Among voters aged 45-54, Romney’s support doubles McCain’s.”

|THE CORNER| Braynard Methodology Survey Florida

* John McCain 32% (31%)

* Mitt Romney 31% (32%)

* Rudy Giuliani 15% (16%)

* Mike Huckabee 13% (13%)

979 were determined by SurveyUSA to be Republicans who had either already voted in the GOP Primary, using early voting, or who were likely to vote at the precinct on 01/29/08, margin of error +/- 3.2%.

Evangelicals for Mitt

The 2008 election is for president, not pastor. We want a president who shares our political and moral values and priorities, can win in 2008, and can govern effectively thereafter by articulating and implementing a values-based governing strategy. This is just what Mitt Romney did as governor and will do as president.

Governor Romney Shares Our Political & Moral Values

Political and moral values are informed by -- but not the same as -- one's religion. That's why we are not casting our votes based on whose theology we like most. History shows that to be a poor approach.

For example, in 1980 voters had two choices: a divorced movie actor who did not regularly attend church and was not on good terms with all of his children, and a once-married Southern Baptist whose evangelicalism was at the core of his national identity. Voting on the basis of whose doctrine was better would have meant electing the second guy -- Jimmy Carter -- over the first, Ronald Reagan. Excluding those who don't hold to orthodox Christianity would also have meant excluding such great Americans as Thomas Jefferson -- who denied the divinity of Christ -- from positions of authority. Is anybody going to argue someone else should've written the Declaration of Independence?

Today, we need a president who embraces a comprehensive and positive values agenda: standing for the sanctity of life, protecting traditional marriage, defending religious liberty and basic human rights at home and abroad, combating poverty and disease within the world's poorest communities, fighting for better quality of life for our citizens, and winning the War on Terror.

We don't want to say doctrine doesn't matter -- it does, very much, in our churches and in our individual relationships with God. But this is a presidential election, and those are about values. Governor Romney is the only candidate with all the right ones. One of his opponents (Mayor Giuliani) is simply not with conservative evangelicals on our bread-and-butter issues -- life and marriage -- and perhaps even more disturbingly, another opponent (Governor Huckabee) has virtually nothing to say about winning the War on Terror. That's probably the ultimate values issue, since the people we are fighting hate our values and want to destroy our civilization.

Commentary

Now that Fred is out of the race, I have been looking for Plan B. I think that Mitt Romney is quickly becoming my next pick. Anyhow, read the info at the above website to see if this guys is a good fit for you.

I make no secret that I am a Christian, and my religious beliefs drive my world view, and expect whoever I choose for President to share as many of them as possible. This is hard because I do not view Mormonism as aChristian denomination. It is an offshoot of the Christian Faith. The new religion shares many of the same values as Christianity does, and that is acceptable to me.

ALIPAC Open Letter to Paul & Romney Campaigns

The following is from ALIPAC, and you can track the discussion thread
on their message board:

Paul & Romney campaigns:

While the verdict is still out if the GOP Presidential primaries can yield a candidate who is truly opposed to Amnesty for the first time in 30 years, GOP voters are looking at your campaigns closely.

Our organization has widely reported the pro amnesty stances of McCain, Giuliani, and Mike Huckabee along with every Democrat in the race.

With the withdrawal of Fred Thompson, Duncan Hunter, and Tom Tancredo from the race, our NO AMNESTY list is down to your two campaigns.

Your campaigns have a real opportunity to consolidate support from Republicans who want Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement. The prior supporters of these campaigns, along with the large section of undecided or soft support voters should begin coalescing around the anti-amnesty candidate with immigration enforcement plans.

The Ron Paul campaign is actively working with some of the grass roots organizations in the immigration enforcement movement and recently received the endorsement of about 20 groups and activists in the South West United States.

The Mitt Romney campaign has received high level endorsements from Congressmen Tancredo, King, and Roharbacher along with Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

As GOP voters, activists, and organizations, struggle to decide who they will vote for and send contributions to, we have three questions for each of your campaigns.

Questions

1. Will your campaign respond to Senator Jeff Sessions's candidate survey, which is designed to give voters greater insight to your campaigns true stances on immigration enforcement Vs. Amnesty for illegal aliens?

2. Will your campaign sign NumbersUSA's "No Amnesty Pledge" which pro amnesty candidate Mike Huckabee has signed to try and cover his true touchback amnesty intentions?

3. What efforts will your campaign make, if any, to reach out to, and secure support from, the hundreds of immigration enforcement groups and activists that have formed across the country to address America's illegal immigration crisis?

These three factors are the top things we will be looking at in relation to your campaigns during these last days before Super Tuesday.

We anxiously await your response to these questions and possible action on the items detailed within this letter.

Venus and Jupiter Near Each Other In Morning Sky

I've updated the news headlines at West Carolina Report for today, and apologize for not being able to update them over the weekend...a retard took out a power pole down the road, and the phone line got corrupted enough with cross talk to ruin the internet connection.

Maybe the lines will get upgraded enough to allow for DSL instead of the pokey 42K I currently suffer under.

Anyhow, enjoy this photo I took this morning of Jupiter and Venus as they approach each other in the morning sky, reaching just half a degree of each other on February 1st, about the size of the full moon in the sky. If I remember, I'll post photos of that as well, as well as the moon when it joins them a few mornings later.

Don’t treat the old and unhealthy, say UK Doctors

By Laura Donnelly, Health Correspondent

26/01/2008

Doctors are calling for NHS treatment to be withheld from patients who are too old or who lead unhealthy lives.

Smokers, heavy drinkers, the obese and the elderly should be barred from receiving some operations, according to doctors, with most saying the health service cannot afford to provide free care to everyone.

£1.7 billion is spent treating diseases caused by smoking, such as lung cancer and emphysema

Fertility treatment and “social” abortions are also on the list of procedures that many doctors say should not be funded by the state.

The findings of a survey conducted by Doctor magazine sparked a fierce row last night, with the British Medical Association and campaign groups describing the recommendations from family and hospital doctors as “outrageous” and “disgraceful”.

About one in 10 hospitals already deny some surgery to obese patients and smokers, with restrictions most common in hospitals battling debt.

  2. John McCain: 27% (23)

  3. Rudy Giuliani: 18% (20)

  4. Mike Huckabee: 12% (15)

  5. Ron Paul: 2% (4)

This will be the first primary where only registered Republicans can vote, and it is a winner take all state...meaning a big delegate take for the winner, and money thrown away by the rest of the field. And I also note that Ron Paul is at 2% in this poll. And since only registered Republicans can vote in this primary...Independents, Libertarians, and Democrats can't cross the lines and pump this pipsqueak's numbers out of proportion.

And John "Mr. Amnesty" McCain scores a number of fellow amnesty supporter endorsements.

Some Convenient Facts;
Sun & Ocean Driving Climate, Not CO2

I am at a public terminal so I will be brief as I have 8 minutes left on my time:

The above video is something you won't hear from the Chicken-Littles in the Global Warming Climate Change fear monger community. Below, is a portion of an excellent article:

Atmospheric CO2 levels have been rising over the past century, and show no sign of slowing down. The apparent association between rising CO2 levels and rising surface temperatures has fueled an apocalyptic media feeding frenzy over the past decade and a half--carrying many politicians and opportunists along with a gullible public. A more sober analysis appears to indicate that other factors may be much more important than the low level CO2 effect.

To ashevegas joe

Apparently a limit has been reached or imposed on our thread at Mtn Xpress, and here is my response to ashevegas joes last:

ashevegasjoe:

well, above you said you were registered independent, then you said the following:

"Essentially , our founders were well read men who studied worldly, educated men who were standing on the shoulders of giants."

that is a VERY conservative position. To quote Kirk:

"Third, conservatives believe in what may be called the principle of prescription. Conservatives sense that modern people are dwarfs on the shoulders of giants, able to see farther than their ancestors only because of the great stature of those who have preceded us in time. Therefore conservatives very often emphasize the importance of prescription—that is, of things established by immemorial usage, so that the mind of man runneth not to the contrary. There exist rights of which the chief sanction is their antiquity—including rights to property, often. Similarly, our morals are prescriptive in great part. Conservatives argue that we are unlikely, we moderns, to make any brave new discoveries in morals or politics or taste. It is perilous to weigh every passing issue on the basis of private judgment and private rationality. The individual is foolish, but the species is wise, Burke declared. In politics we do well to abide by precedent and precept and even prejudice, for the great mysterious incorporation of the human race has acquired a prescriptive wisdom far greater than any man’s petty private rationality."

And as far as answering you, I have only done so when directly addressed.

I'll take the Iraq war since it is one I deal with on a daily basis:

"Let me start by saying I’m a registered independent, so the Democratic Party will probably not pick me to debate the Stompers. However, it is of no consequence, as there is little to debate. As for Mr. Nesbitt’s first point, the purpose of “the war on terror”, is to grab and occupy an antiquated, fossil fuel."

That is most patently false.

We have helped the Iraqis build their military:
Table of Order
[link]

Iraqi Security Forces Surge:
[link]

And here is a page listing the progress of turning the Iraqi Provinces back to Iraqi control...
[link]
you said...
"One that has cost many lives, much environmental degradation, as well as the growing disdain of the U.S. worldwide."

Our casualties and deaths are very significantly lower than nearly any other invasion in history, truly a historical success.
[link]

As far as Iraqi lives lost, do not believe the lies put out by the Soros funded Lancet Study...designed to hurt President Bush in the 2004 Election.
[link]

Even notoriously lefty site Iraq Body Count records about 14% and it does not distinguish between people killed by our forces, or the enemy forces, who are notorious for specifically targeting civilians.
[link]

And here is another site, which measures coalition force deaths, civilians, and other factors as well
[link]

And compare those figures to the number of Venezuelans who die violently to Iraqi deaths...a rate twice that of Iraq...and Venezuela isn't occupied by anybody other than Chavista thugs.
[link]

"enviro degradation"

Oh, like our restoration of the Marshes for the Marsh Arabs, who had their marshes (wetlands to you lefties) drained and burned, their homes destroyed?
[link]

And Saddam's burning Kuwaiti Oil Fields in 1991?
Who fixed that, I wonder.
[link]

He tried it again in 2003, but we stopped it.
[link]

And don't believe the lies about Depleted Uranium.
I hope you haven't flown lately, because many aircraft use DU as trim weights.

And as far as worldwide disdain of the USA, I don't give a rats tuccus what lefties think of our great nation, whether they be here, or on a sidewalk cafe in Pairs, or participating in a rent-a-mob protest for the cameras.

We are the last, best hope of humanity on this planet. We have saved Europe's behind three times in the 20th Century, and it looks like we may have to do it again to save them from becoming Eurabia.
[link]

That is, of course, assuming we haven't succumbed to the march of socialism here, or worse, yet Dhimmis ourselves.

We are in this Fourth World War to the death, whether we withdraw, or whether we continue to advance. I call it World War IV, the Salafis call it "The Third Great Jihad" and mean to destroy western civilization. Some of us will fight that, even if our government surrenders.
[link]

I could answer each and every one of your points at length, and in detail, but will not not add to what I feel has become an overly long response.

If you feel you need the other questions answered, just google my user name, and you'll find my blog. I think I have already answered most of your questions at one time or another there, or will do so upon request. This thread is supposed to be focused on The Carolina Stompers, so I'll bow out and let them assume center stage. I have not meant to steal any of the limelight, Chad, so please forgive me. I get worked up beyond my ability to control in the face of such utter ignorance of the world situation, and the bigotry of lefties everywhere. Were there a real Galt's Gulch, I would decamp there and leave the morons to die in their own filth.

"Who is John Galt?"

[edit] I think I like this style of composing material for dissemination, and am considering a series where I answer point-for-point a post on a lefty (or pauleroid) blog.

Retired Army Green Beret Court Martialed;
Used Weapon of Inufficient Caliber On Home Intruder

Retired Army Green Beret Smokey Taylor was court martialed this weekend, and came away feeling good about it. Taylor, at age 80 the oldest member of Chapter XXXIII of the Special Forces Association, was on mock trial by his peers under the charge of "Failing to use a weapon of sufficient caliber" in the shooting of an intruder at his home in Knoxville, Tennesee, in December.

The entire affair, of course, was very much tongue in cheek. Taylor had been awakened in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, 2007, when an intruder broke into his home. He investigated the noises with one of his many weapons in hand. When the intruder threatened him with a knife, Taylor warned him, then brought his .22 caliber pistol to bear and shot him right between the eyes.

"That boy had the hardest head I’ve ever seen," Taylor said after his trial. "The bullet bounced right off." The impact knocked the would be thief down momentarily. He crawled out of the room then got up and ran out the door and down the street. Knoxville police apprehended him a few blocks away and he now awaits trial in the Knox County jail.

The charges against Taylor were considered to be serious. He is a retired Special Forces Weapons Sergeant with extensive combat experience during the wars in Korea and Vietnam. "Charges were brought against him under the premise that he should have saved the county and taxpayers the expense of a trial," said Chapter XXXIII President Bill Long of Asheville. "He could have used a .45 or .38. The .22 just wasn’t big enough to get the job done."

The Champs Elysees Republicans

The Financial Times joined the EUnuchs in celebrating current U.S. financial markets’ instability. The EUrocrats are, as usual, rejoicing in our problems, saying that we’d be so much better off if only we adopted their socialist economic theories. But Europe -- and it’s projected 1.5-1.8% growth -- is in worse shape than we, not better. Nevertheless, FT pompously passed along the call to “wake up, America!”

It is worth noting that this chortling occurred amid a meltdown of Europe’s own stock markets. They’ve got their priorities, though.

OK, so let’s pay attention to Europe.

Just the day before the FT article appeared, the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries pleaded with the European Commission to stop the hemorrhaging from their global warming carbon cap-and-trade rationing scheme. The reason is that this put their industry at a big competitive disadvantage compared to Chinese, Russian, Indian, U.S. and other producers.

This scheme that has sent European steelmaking jobs to Kentucky and Alabama, is also what Sens. John McCain, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and Gov. Mike Huckabee are all advocating. It’s good to know the Europeans might be nice to them.

Just the day before that cry for help from lagging European industry, the European Roundtable of Industrialists similarly begged the Commission, saying this program could destroy the competitive position of European industry. The letter was signed by the CEO of Royal Dutch Shell, a company which had all along pushed for the scheme, as far back as when Enron pioneered the (very Enron-esque) moneymaking deal here, before the, ah, unpleasantness.

This reminds me of the arrogance dogging U.S. industry lobbyists advocating imposition of this economic millstone here. Experience notwithstanding, they convince themselves that they can ride the back of the tiger of energy rationing policies and not end up in the tiger’s belly. Europe has proven that these schemes will not work as promised, and will get out of the control of the big businesses who push them as useful idiots of the environmentalist industry.

One reason we haven’t seen such legislation pass here -- yet -- is because thieves tend to fall out when it comes time to split up the loot, and industry and their political pals haven’t agreed on who gets to pick your pocket.

But Europe plans to treat us with more hectoring, Given the pain from just three years of a regulatory experiment to hide their inefficient energy tax they now promise a trade war.

The President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barosso, vowed to impose trade sanctions on countries that haven’t adopted Europe’s rationing scheme. (Never mind that I’ve documented that they’re cheating under it). This is a direct admission we that the scheme is doing precisely as we warned, and killing their economy.

Remember this when you hear ”cap and trade” sold domestically as creating “green collar jobs.” That’s nonsense. Though some brokerages have done well and utilities, some oil companies and others have been given windfall profits in the trillions, the real cost is the number of jobs high energy costs are chasing away. They have even driven steel jobs here, at the expense of EU economic growth.

Another One Bites The Dust...Kucinich Out

The Democrat Ron Paul is out.

The Definition of Rebate

Troy LaPlante has a good point:

Rebate
Pronunciation: \ˈrē-ˌbāt\
Function: noun
Date: 1656
Definition: a return of a part of a payment

To rebate something to someone who did not pay in the first place is not, by definition, a rebate. I am all for cutting taxes. However, a tax rebate is for those who pay taxes. Those who do not pay taxes should NOT get a "rebate". It becomes a hand out and a form of welfare or entitlement at the expense of all others who do pay taxes.

Bill, Hill, Alinsky, and Tearing Down Obama

I can't remember if I have discussed Saul Alinsky on this website. If not, that is about to change, and I'll let Kyle-Anne Shiver lead off:

Obama was up; now he's down. Even though Obama seems to be harnessing the South Carolina black vote that will give him that state's delegates, he has been feeling the brunt of the Clintons' mastery of the tactic of polarization, taught decades ago to Hillary by Saul Alinsky.

Obama is being forced into the position of being the black candidate. Successfully polarizing Obama, who has attempted to run as the anti-polarity uniter, a man in the middle, has not been a lazy-day walk in the park for the Clintons, and surely would not have been attempted if Obama hadn't trounced them in Iowa.

Alinsky's 13th rule for radicals

Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

Saul Alinsky taught his eager disciples that the establishment despised conflict. He blamed this perverse malady upon the dual forces of organized religion ( those turn-the-other-cheek folks) and the Madison Avenue advertising culture, which he said "emphasizes getting along with people and avoiding friction." Alinsky deemed avoidance of conflict as not only disgusting, but contrary to the betterment of a "free and open society."

Russian scientist says Earth could soon face new Ice Age

Don't throw away those parkas just yet, lefties!

ST. PETERSBURG, January 22 (RIA Novosti) - Temperatures on Earth have stabilized in the past decade, and the planet should brace itself for a new Ice Age rather than global warming, a Russian scientist said in an interview with RIA Novosti Tuesday.

"Russian and foreign research data confirm that global temperatures in 2007 were practically similar to those in 2006, and, in general, identical to 1998-2006 temperatures, which, basically, means that the Earth passed the peak of global warming in 1998-2005," said Khabibullo Abdusamatov, head of a space research lab at the Pulkovo observatory in St. Petersburg.

According to the scientist, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere has risen more than 4% in the past decade, but global warming has practically stopped. It confirms the theory of "solar" impact on changes in the Earth's climate, because the amount of solar energy reaching the planet has drastically decreased during the same period, the scientist said.

Had global temperatures directly responded to concentrations of "greenhouse" gases in the atmosphere, they would have risen by at least 0.1 Celsius in the past ten years, however, it never happened, he said.

"A year ago, many meteorologists predicted that higher levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere would make the year 2007 the hottest in the last decade, but, fortunately, these predictions did not become reality," Abdusamatov said.

He also said that in 2008, global temperatures would drop slightly, rather than rise, due to unprecedentedly low solar radiation in the past 30 years, and would continue decreasing even if industrial emissions of carbon dioxide reach record levels.

By 2041, solar activity will reach its minimum according to a 200-year cycle, and a deep cooling period will hit the Earth approximately in 2055-2060. It will last for about 45-65 years, the scientist added.

Pray For President Bush

I would like to remind my readers who believe in the power of prayer to pray for the President. While we may not not always agree with his decisions, he is still the leader that God has selected for us, and we should lift him up, and seek God's Face on his behalf.

Prayforgeorgewbush.com is a non-denominational, non-partisan ministry dedicated to lifting up President George W. Bush in Prayer as he serves this country as President of the United States. For over four years, God-fearing Americans have gathered to lift up the man whom God has placed in the office of the Presidency (Romans 13:1 "Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God."-HCSB™). During this time of national triumph and tragedy, we have seen God work in marvelous ways in the life our our country and its president.

S-CHIP Veto Override Fails (Again!)

WASHINGTON, DC, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- The U.S. House of Representatives, for the second time in recent months, failed Wednesday to override a presidential veto of a children's insurance program.

The 260-152 vote to override President George Bush's veto of the State Children's Health Insurance Program fell 15 votes shy of the needed two-thirds majority. Nineteen members did not vote.

Twice in 2007 Bush, backed by House Republicans, vetoed legislation to expand the popular health insurance for needy children by $35 billion. Critics said the expansion would have made middle-class children, whose parents could afford healthcare insurance on their own, eligible. Backers said the additional coverage was needed to protect more low-income children.

Congress eventually passed legislation that would extend SCHIP until March 31, 2009.

Bush said he was pleased that his veto remained in tact.

Regional Representative Voting Positions:

Voting to sustain President Bush's veto were Virginia Foxx (R NC-05) and Patrick McHenry (R NC-10)

Voting to overturn the Presidential veto was Heath Shuler (D NC-11)

This is another of the myriad of reasons that we need to elect a Republican to the right of McCain and Schmuckerbie to the White House this November.

Britain Cracking Down On The Counterjihad?

DRACONIAN ACTION against counter-jihadist bloggers in Britainistan is probably imminent. One has to consider why there is limited or no publicity about Islamic gang-rapes, SJS incidents and other forms of 'street jihad' in the national MSM.

If publicity and the press is controlled, which it is, local people in areas which are regularly affected will tend not to realise that there are many similar incidents across the country.

They will feel that the one they do know about, the local incident, is unusual and and consequently, they will not make too much fuss.

They may also think that their feelings about all the Muslim problems and spin-offs affecting them are not shared by many others across the country. They therefore do not react particularly strongly.

Suddenly though, through the blogosphere, they are now realising that they are not unique in their opinions and that many others feel exactly as they do.

Source: Infidel Bloggers Alliance

On a related note, London has emerged as the biggest center of Islamic Finance in the west, so that might help you understand how enormous the problem has grown.

On one of the recent radio shows covering this, I suggested that American Tourists start paying attention to this problem, and reporting on it as well. Perhaps British citizens could start e-mailing details on these events to their friends in America, and we could start blogging about it ourselves if the Brits manage to shut them all down.

The Lefty-Islamist Alliance will almost always resort to seeking ways to shut people up. I hold that they must do this because they have no alternate message that can hold water against the truth.

The people in Britain are akin to a frog in a pot of warm water that is slowly being warmed up, heading toward the boiling point. The time to act is now, and now is the time to start squawking.

A recent event online has taught me that lesson well, and has radicalized me into quicker action, instead of the slow progress I have have been making on the path I envisioned in 2005.

They say that fortune favors the bold.
Well, I am about to be bold...

...the conservative revolution in western North Carolina is about to see some major moves...

...stay tuned...

The feedstock for the refinery will be algal oil produced by PetroSun BioFuels at company owned and operated algae farms to be located in Arizona....The refinery will have an annual production capacity of thirty million gallons and will produce 100% renewable biodiesel. PetroSun BioFuels will process the residual algae biomass into ethanol....Petrosun claims that Independent studies have demonstrated that algae is capable of producing in excess of 30 times more oil per acre than corn and soybean crops.

My Man Fred Drops Out of the Race

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) - Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson quit the Republican presidential race on Tuesday, after a string of poor finishes in early primary and caucus states.

"Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort," Thompson said in a statement.

Thompson's fate was sealed last Saturday in the South Carolina primary, when he finished third in a state that he had said he needed to win.

I guess that makes me an orphan. I'm thinking Romney is gonna be Plan B.

God Bless you Fred Thompson. Thank You for running, and your mother is in my prayers.

Asheville Progresives React To The Carolina Stompers

The above video was inspired by the continuing dismay of Progressives, Progressitarians (a new word?) and the Pagans to The Carolina Stompers in Asheville, NC.

In particular, this comment thread over at Mountain Xpress.

You can visit The Carolina Stompers to find out what has them so very upset.

**update 1.59pm**

This is getting even better than I had expected!!! Lady Passion has threatened to sue me for the video satirizing their behavior!

Her comments:

Rash, unwise act, Thunderpig.

You and the Stompers may be legally liable for posting that video:

You either plagerized the opening sequence of 2001: A Space Odyssey — thereby possibly violating Intellectual Property Rights law — or possibly violated copyright law if you posted actual snippets from the movie without permission from the production or distribution company.

If you’re a Stompers member and they supported you uploading this, the entire group could conceivably be sued.

Task Force ODIN Kills 2,400 Bombers in Iraq!

Another story you won't hear about in the Legacy Media:

In Iraq, a hundred-man Army unit is using an array of drones, manned surveillance planes, helicopters, and video downlinks to kill 2,400 bomb-planters and capture 141 more.

The 14-month-old, once-classified Army outfit is called Task Force ODIN, for “observe-detect-identify-neutralize.” It was first disclosed in May. But now, additional details about ODIN are emerging. And the Task Force's "success has led Army officials to expand it and to bring its tactics to Afghanistan..."

West Carolina Report and Ten Myths About Nuclear Power

Not that they have anything to do with one another, I just didn't want to do a post for each topic.

West Carolina Report

First, I have updated the first four pages of West Carolina Report with news headlines that link to the news of the day. Of course, the widgets on those pages are always up-to-date, thanks to the miracle of RSS Feeds. I will have my state and local widgets ready soon. I also have upgraded the hosting because I exceeded my bandwidth allocation for last month. I've got 600GB now...and I'm not likely to exceed that anytime soon (unless one of the big boys link to me again!) and it also affords me more hard disk space that will allow me to make the next phase of improvements I have been planning.

Ten Myths About Nuclear Power

  1. Uranium is running out
  2. Nuclear is not a low-carbon option
  3. Nuclear power is expensive
  4. Reactors produce too much waste
  5. Decommissioning is too expensive
  6. Building reactors takes too long
  7. Leukemia rates are higher near reactors
  8. Reactors lead to weapons proliferation
  9. Wind and wave power are more sustainable
  10. Reactors are a terrorist target

Be sure to click over to read Amy's post, and follow her links and arm yourself to combat the Lies From The Left on nuclear power. I'm still disappointed that Duke Power didn't go through with the nuke plant in Macon County. That would have been cool, and a great boost to the local economy, not to mention giving the local greenie weenies a heart attack!

Patrick McHenry Conference Call

Last week, NC-10 Congressman Patrick McHenry had a media conference call, in which he addressed many issues of significance, including economic stimulus and immigration reform:

McHenry says the stimulus will be rebate of $250 or $300 and similar to one implemented in 2001.
“Anytime we can give people back their money, I’m for it,” McHenry said. “This is a bill I can be for.”
Still, he says the best economic stimulus is to “control (government) spending and make tax cuts permanent. We can right our economic ship if we do that.”
The nation’s current economic woes come from the mortgage crisis and, specifically, the liquidity problem.
“The effects on Wall Street are hurting Main Street,” McHenry said.
McHenry fears Congress will overreach, harming residents who want to refinance their homes.
The congressman recently hosted a home mortgage seminar in Lenoir. Seventy people attended. A surprising fact is about half of residents who undergo foreclosures don’t ask for help.
“We want them to know the options they have,” McHenry said.

Congress also is working on a border security immigration bill. McHenry expects the bill will address “a dire need” for immigration reform. About 100 Republicans and 40 Democrats are signed on to the bill, he said.

Democratic Candidates Converge on Asheville,
And Scrutiny Hooligans Were There

Arratik and I, after loading up with kegs of Caffiend’s finest roast, ventured into the blowing snow and made our way to UNC-Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium for the first of six scheduled debates between the Democratic candidates for Lieutenant Governor. Moderated by NC 11th District Democratic Party Chairman, Luke Hyde, and organized by the NC Young Democrats, the debate allowed too much time for each response and too little chance to compare candidates stances. Each of the four men meandered away from the prescribed questions. They’re politicians, after all, and they’re going to keep talking if you let them. Very few questions were answered at the Jan. 19th debate, but the ones that were reveal four distinct personalities running on four different records.

The debate was dominated by environment and energy issues, and this being Asheville, that’s no surprise. I imagine that each debate will have its own set of pet issues, so I’m hopeful that we’ll have a comprehensive picture of each candidate by the end of the series.

Source: Scrutiny Hooligans

Gordon and Arratik have done good work in with their coverage of the field jockeying for the nod to be the Democrat candidate for Lt. Governor of North Carolina.

It is a safe bet that their coverage will be better than what you will read in the Asheville Citizen-Times.

Al-Qaeda in Iraq Update: Jan. 20

The following is a briefing from Rear Admiral Gregory Smith:

We have provided several briefings over the past year focused on operations against al-Qaeda Iraq, and while considerable progress has been made we still have much work to do. Operation Phantom Phoenix, an Iraq-wide operation targeting al-Qaeda, has been underway for two weeks and the effects of these combined coalition and Iraqi Security Force operations has been substantial.

Since January 1, Operation Phantom Phoenix has conducted 18 battalion-level operations, detained 1023 terrorists and killed 121 terrorists. Among those captured or killed were 92 high-value targets. Coalition and Iraqi forces have also found and cleared 351 caches, 410 IEDs, 3 VBIED and IED factories, and 4 tunnel complexes.

I thought it would be helpful to spend some time today discussing what still remains as Iraq’s most lethal enemy and its greatest threat to peace … al-Qaeda Iraq.

What is al-Qaeda Iraq? Who are its leaders and who makes up their rank and file? How are they organized, funded and how do they operate? What are they hoping to achieve in Iraq? And finally, what effect have they had on the people living here? These are questions I hope to be able to provide some perspective on by summarizing the fight against al-Qaeda Iraq over the past year.

The Surge Succeeds!

The Problem With John McCain I

First, let me clear the decks on his wartime service...he served our nation well. He behaved honorably during his imprisonment, and torture, at the hands of the Communist Vietnamese. [There are those who claim otherwise...I will not link to them because most of them are 9/11 Twoofers, and I do not consider anyone who is a twoofer to be menatlly competent.]

During his years in the Senate, he has championed pork-busting, denying pork projects for his own state, and stopping some pork projects for other Senators. [According to the St Pete Times, that is a lie.]

That is about all the good things I can say about him.

If he is the nominee of our party, I will find it very difficult to vote for him, and I will not lend him any material, or psychological, support. I will not give his campaign one dime, I will not make one phone call in his behalf.

In fact, I believe I had promised during the Shamnesty debate that I would man the phones for Moveon.org if they had a phone bank I could get to at some point during the campaign.

Here are some demographic numbers based on exit polling in South Carolina:

Veterans: McCain 36, Huckabee 25, Romney 20, Thompson 13
Evangelicals: Huckabee 41, McCain 27, Thompson 14, Romney 11
Independents: McCain 37, Huckabee 23, Paul 15, Romney 14
Conservatives: Huckabee 32, McCain 26, Romney 19, Thompson 17

Source: Race 4 2008

Defeating McCain

The first thing I garner from the above numbers is that either Romney or Thompson must withdraw from the race if we are to deny McCain the nomination. The Thompson Surge began too late. Even though I like him over Romney, the numbers do not support him remaining in the race.

He should withdraw, and throw his support behind Romney.

I see a Romney-Thompson 2008 Ticket as the best I can hope for at this point.

Reason Number One

There are many reasons McCain must be denied the nomination. Here is the first:
  1. McCain-Feingold [1] [2] [3]
Senator John McCain co-wrote, and championed a piece of legislation that did severe damage to the 1st Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Should I ever be ruled to fall under it's provisions, this is one law I will not obey, even under force of arms.

...there will be more forthcoming...

Peak Oil: Meet Marcellus Black Shale

Al Fin has a post up you should read:
Up to 500 trillion cubic feet-- US$ 1 Trillion -- of unconventional natural gas deposits lie within the north Appalachian Plateau, within the US. New gas drilling technologies--spurred by higher prices for natural gas--make possible an extended era of natural gas in the US.

As Another Snow Approaches,
Dreams of Spring

The current forecast calls for a snowstorm to skirt us in western North Carolina, and hit South Carolina, where the first conservative state has it's primary...hopefully, this will keep the moderates at home.

Anyhow, I have updated my war page, and national page on West Carolina Report, and have this photo from Thursday to share. The exposure was 4 seconds long since I took it while it was still relatively dark. Notice the snow was already turning to slush under the merciless assault from a cruel light rain that lasted until about 10 or so that morning.

My internet connection gave out, so I couldn't post it then, and forgot yesterday. I've already got spring fever, and am planning my garden with fevered anticipation. I have been too busy for the past ten years to have one, and I can't stand it any longer...this year, I'm back in the garden! Even if I have to just work part-time to have the time to play in the dirt, and raise something good to look upon, and something good to eat.

Spain Faces Terrorism Despite Fleeing Iraq

The Civil Guard detained the suspects in Barcelona as part of a joint operation with Spain's National Intelligence Centre (CNI).

Several premises were searched and, as the operation is ongoing, more arrests have not been ruled out.

Spain suffered at the hands of Islamist militants in 2004 when 191 people were killed in the Madrid train bombings.

Source: BBC

Shortly after the 2004 Madrid Bombings, the Spaniards elected a Lefty, and they fled the field of battle. Not surprisingly, the terrorism has continued, putting the lie to the claim by Lefty Democrats, and Lefty Ron Paul Supporters that if we just leave Iraq, the terrorists will be okay with that.

Riiiight!

I have said time and again that this is a World War, and I have called it World War IV for several years. The objective for the Muslim Terrorists is control of the Earth. Since we don't have any moon bases or colonies on Mars, that kind of leaves us with no where to go, doesn't it?

I've always believed that the best defense is a good offense. And we civilians should do what we can to clear the decks for our leaders in the government, and in the the military, by exposing the harmful politicos in our own system, and getting them out of office.

First, we should identify, and get behind candidates who support our war effort, and elect them instead of Quislings [1] [2] and Dhimmis [1] [2] who are either in league with, or are afraid of the enemy.

Here are the candidates in the Presidential Race I feel are best suited for such a thing as taking the fight to the enemy:
  1. Fred Thompson
  2. Duncan Hunter
  3. Mitt Romney
  4. Rudy Giuliani
There are no others beside them. The rest are cowards, or worse.

Clinton Democrats Decry Union Thuggery In Nevada,
Obama Waxes Nostalgic For The Reagan Years

I laughed aloud when I read the following:

This is an open caucus. Union members will be standing in the same room with other union members. Or maybe even their shop steward. Or their foreman. Or possibly even a union official. Everyone will know which candidate you're backing. And if you're a member of Culinary Workers Local 226, and you don't caucus for Senator Obama???

The above was actually written by a diarist at MyDD! I'll bet that same person was for the Card Check Bill that our Congressman, Heath Shuler ,supported. The statement by that Democrat is just too full of delicious hypocrisy to let by unremarked upon. That "union gal" has just been bitten by the Beast that is Moral Relativism.

I wonder what Obama Democrats will think of their guy wishing for the optimism of the Reagan years again?

Quoting the Obama:

"Ronald Reagan changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not, and a way that Bill Clinton did not. We want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship that had been missing."

Senator Barack Obama (D-IL)

**UPDATE** I found the video:

I am still looking for videos of the HildaBeast and The Lecherous One...

Source: Washington Post

Me too, Barack, me too. Who would have thought that a Marxist like Obama could let down his guard for one second and let his fellow Democrats know that he admired the man who destroyed the Soviet Union?

Well, the HildaBeast (Hillary Clinton), the Breck Girl (John Edwards), and President Bill Clinton couldn't let that stand unchallenged:

First, the Beast:

"I have to say, you know, my leading opponent the other day said that he thought the Republicans had better ideas than Democrats the last ten to fifteen years. That's not the way I remember the last ten to fifteen years.

"I don't think it's a better idea to privatize Social Security. I don't think it's a better idea to try to eliminate the minimum wage. I don't think it's a better idea to undercut health benefits and to give drug companies the right to make billions of dollars by providing prescription drugs to Medicare recipients. I don't think it's a better idea to shut down the government, to drive us into debt."

Now, the Breck Girl:

The last two items were found on Gateway Pundit.

And, the Leacherous One (Bill Clinton):

"Her principal opponent said that since 1992, the Republicans have had all the good ideas," Clinton told a crowd in Pahrump this morning. "It goes along with their plan to ask Republicans to become Democrats for a day and caucus with you tomorrow, and then go back and become Republicans so they can participate in the Republican primary. I'm not making this up, folks."

He then asked which ideas were better in the last 15 years "than the new ideas I brought to Washington," outlining issue-by-issue where Republicans stood on his accomplishments.

"I can't imagine any Democrat seeking the presidency would say they were the party of new ideas for the last 15 years. But it sounded good in Reno I guess," he said. "So now it turns out you can choose between somebody who thinks our ideas or better or the Republicans had all the good ideas."
Source

This is some really funny stuff, and I hope the eventual GOP Nominee is smart enough to have some fun with it, and run some commercials on how even the Democrats are starting to come around on Reagan. Who knows, in 20 years, we may have Democrats waxing nostalgic for the President George W. Bush years while they debate whether or not Social Security should be completely privatized, and left up to the private sector!!!

One of my favorite Blog Talk Radio Shows is "The Gathering Storm," which features WC of The Gathering Storm Blog, and Always, of Always on Watch.

They host a weekly show on Fridays, starting at 3pm, with the theme of tracking the progress of the jihad against the west using the framing device of noting the tactics used by Islamists as they attempt to soften up western civilization for the coming war via Intimidation, Infiltration, and Disinformation. They also track the Appeasers & Apologists, and WC gives out a weekly "Winston Churchill Golden Balls Award" to someone who has had the stones to stand up to them and their fellow travelers and appeasers.

This weeks guests are:

1. Ilana Freedman of The Gerard Group, which states at the site's header, If you want to ignore the terrorist threat, that's your business. If you want to protect against it, that's ours. See this list for articles by Ms. Freedman.

2. Brigitte Gabriel, author of Because They Hate: A Survivor of Islamic Terror Warns America and founder of the web site ACT For America!, where Ms. Gabriel states I founded ACT! for America because Islamic militants have declared war on America....We are in for the fight of our lives....
