Gas Crunch: Don Yelton Position Statement

After hearing the press conference in Asheville today it is apparent that we have not planned for or considered an interruption in our gas flow. We are victims of oil allocations and refineries located in a prime spot for hurricanes. We in Asheville depend upon tourist trade especially at this time of year. We do not need to be captive to one pipe line or a few distributors.

The following is offered with some thought to a location that would be ideal..

Please consider and pass along to those that make up the slow acting power structure in this county and state. We do not need a study we know what the problem is therefore we need solutions.

Don Yelton

Position Statement to Solve Our Gas Lines Long Term

Senators Burr and Dole join with Representative Shuler and ask both McCory and Purdue to step up to the plate and promote the following:

Ø Drilling for oil and gas just off the coast of North Carolina

Ø Create incentives to encourage construction of oil refineries in the Wilmington area

Ø Create a petroleum reserve in Western North Carolina

The steps can be done by the private/public partnership and provide a solution to our problem without regard to politics and glory. We need to get back to service for the people.

I will as a County Commissioner, or more importantly a private citizen, push for and promote this idea from this day forth. The press conference today shows us that we do not need another committee but we need to be about the above solutions.

Any committee formed should be to promote and bring this about.
